7-10-09 Solomons Island

Yesterday at 5:30 am Mo, his cousin Mike and I launched for some white perch fishing. The tide was beginning to fall and the water was smooth. We first stopped at military marina and bomb beach with no luck. Things started getting better when we got to Mo's Cove. Mike is a novice at this style of fishing but he is enthusiastic. With practice, his casting and accuracy improved. It is always great to introduce a new person to UL grub fishing and watch them land fish. He really seemed to enjoy himself. At one point he hooked a large ray which Mo and I hoped would be a rockfish. We all caught the usual variety of croakers and perch but this time we caught no rockfish. Mike caught the largest croaker. Mo wanted to try a new spot and proceeded to catch a twelve and one half inch perch! Unfortunately it was the only fish in that area. The fish are not as numerous as they usually get later in the summer and fall. Our final count will probably be about thirty. Now, the filleting must be done. Gee whiz.....I can't seem to find Mo!
