Punk'd......

...using a 4" swimbait.  I thought these were supposed to weed out the little ones.

Here's another fish, a little bigger, but still....

Re: Punk'd......

bass have eyes that are bigger than their stomachs sometimes. I just got a big 7" 1.8oz swimbait that I am hoping will weed out the runts.

You may need one of my catfish rods to throw that beast!

I can throw it on one of my flipping sticks. You don't really cast them, you just lob them

Re: Punk'd......

btw, mudkart, did that second fish's wound seem fresh? it looks like the hooks from your bait might have ripped a little gash in the fish's mouth?

I couldn't say, the second fish was hooked with only one hook of the treble just as you can see in the photo.  I didn't have to rip it out or anything after landing it, but, anything goes during the fight and of course I couldn't tell what exactly was going on underwater.  It could have been caught recently: this place gets mondo pressure and fish in this size range have been biting there lately.

Based on they way the fish wanted this Spro retrieved, I can see an MS Slammer in the very, very near future.  What did you get?

Re: Punk'd......

I think sometimes fishing braid with treble hooks can lead to tearing if you set the hook really hard on em.

No hooksets involved here.  Just maintain a tight line.

Re: Punk'd......

I used to cut hooks off trebles but that changes the action (and Curly always gave me grief). But now I am starting to bend one of the hooks in. I hate trebles.
