My father and I decided to hire a guide and go down to Miami to share some quality time and to catch some fish. My Dad does not have a lot of bass fishing experience, so I had to show him a few things as did the Captain. We split the trip into two days. Day one targeted the Everglades for LMB and day two took us to a private lake for Peacock Bass. I have a lot of pics, so this may be a long string, but what a trip!
We probably caught 75 bass on the first day (all day) and followed that up with a combined 50 fish the next morning, despite 30mph+ winds. I fished artificials extensively on Friday (day 1) while my dad learned shiners and later in the day, how to fish a wacky worm.
Here is where we launched on Friday.
This is who we launched with.
We started off fishing a water pump output. I was using a frog patterned Zara Spook while my Dad learned the hook setting technique with Shiners. Immediately we started killing it.
Dad's first bass ever.
My first fish...a nice 2lb bass.
Then it got ridiculous. I probably caught 30 bass in this one spot with my biggest five going 17lbs. The biggest of the day was a 4.5lb bass which was then matched with my Dad's biggest of the day. This nice 3lb bass.
Here are some other good ones I got into.
My bass...my Dad's bait...
With the live bait, Dad started to mix things up with this colorful Oscar.
He also caught a Cichlid (Mayan I think, but with no photo).
Just in case you needed validation, check out this 9-10ft Gator. The Everglades are amazing!

Wow, color me jealous. I've never caught a peacock despite living in Orlando for 3 years in the early 90's. Lots of bass and snook, but no peacocks. I don't think they tolerate central Florida? Most of the posts I see on these are from south Fl, e.g. Miami, Lauderdale. Way to go.
