went back this evening.
caught a 6 pound seven ounce largemouth on a 3" red senko.
I was throwing 4# test on my 9' ultralight outfit.
I have never played a bass that long.
it was not the same fish i caught a few weeks ago.
this bass was blind in one eye.

Jeff - was this bass out of Ashburn Lake or Cedar?

On a 3" senko?!?! So much for "big baits, big fish"!

this was w/o a doubt the most remarkable experience of my fishing career.
the relative silence is underwhelming

You need to get a camera....guys want to see pictures!!!
I am having a hard time with a 9 foot UL outfit...doesn't make sense to me. Maybe further explanation??
Congrats on the accomplishment!

i have what is called a st croix rivermaster. you can throw b/t 4 and 8# line w/ it, and lures from 1/16 to 1/4 ounce. i have a shimano stradic ultralight spinning real.
i like it because you can lob a light bait, like a 3" senko, a long way w/o any weight. the rod is very sensitve, and when you hold it high you can keep alot of line out of the water.
the long length lets you take out a ton of slack on the hookset, then acts like a giant shock absober for landing big fish on light line.
if you are ever over a dick's , you might see some on the st croix rack.
i have become accustomed to it, and really enjoy the feel.
it is probably like a fly rod w/ a spinning reel.
maybe not for everybody, but it worked just like i hoped it would on that big bass.
i just have to remember to sweep the hookset.
i smuggled my wife's camera out of the house saturday. i hooked another very big fish in the same area, but choked and broke it off.
i understand the picture concept, but by the same token i am 42 yrs old, and take fishing seriously.
i wouldnt claim a fish I didnt weigh.

Not doubting the fish....just that a short story without a picture about a big fish doesn't ever get much activity around here. It's almost as it gets overlooked. I just know the guys like seeing the pictures.....even Charlie's sideways shots!
Now I understand what you did and how you did it....pretty cool. I have an old 9' Shakespeare pole that I use for crappie. I once landed a 3 lb bass and it was quite a fight.
