11-14-08 Potomac River (DC) report

On this soupy day, Kent Williams and I hit the Washington Channel with high anticipation. Kent's 1st fishing trip when he moved here 4 1/2 years ago was to the WC in November (we had a decent day that day). We put in around 8:15 and slowly motored up to the channel. The tide was just starting to fall (Curly called and told me that).....visibility was very limited.....

On our 1st pass, we had a fish on and the skunk was off the boat.....

Then it started to get interesting. As Curly reported out, we consistently caught fish from 8:30 until 12:30 although we went almost 1 1/2 hours with no bites at the end. One of the rods bent over and Kent had a nice fight on his hands. The fish was 21" and 4 lbs!

Then another rod went down and it was my turn....nice fish on and here is the proof of weight.....

Fat football.....

The aftermath.....

That lure broke as we brought the 7 pounder in to the boat. Close call!

Here is another fisherman working the wall.....

I don't know if he caught any fish.

Today, most of the fish were caught between the rock buoy  and the new rock buoy (where Curly always sets his marker).

We were making our last pass and talking about a last second fish when it happened! The rod went down and all I could hear was Kent whoopin' and hollerin'...he had a big boy on!

Kent's last second fight....

This was not a long fish but he was a beast....21.5" and 5.6 lbs!!

According to Curly's "live" report, here is how it all went down:

8:30 am - 16" throwback striper
9:00 am - 21" striper, 4+ lbs
9:45 am - 26" striper, 7+ lbs
10:04 am - 19.5" striper landed
10:18 am - 19 3/4" striper
10:40 am - 18 3/4" striper
11:01 am - 19" striper, 3+ lbs
12:31 pm - 21.5", 5+ lb football striper
12:32 pm- lines out of the water and heading to ramp

All the fish were released to be caught another day....maybe tomorrow!  Another great day out on the water!!

Very nice! Hopefully the weather lets up and we're able to make it out tomorrow.

Nice fish...way to throw them back. It will only help the upcoming spawn!

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!
