Gray Morning 9/29/23

I got out for some shore fishing from around 7:30am-10:00am.  Water has settled down and cleared some.  Still some stain and some floating grass, but not bad.

I tried my first spot and was having trouble getting correct position and presentation due to logs and water being up my 12" boots.  I managed 2 on the TRD with one around 14" chasing my lure down when I was reeling in to re-cast.  I saw the wake and killed it and it put up a nice fight.

Second spot was more open and got bites immediately, but probably smaller fish, as they did not get the hook.  Finally got this one to commit.

A few casts later, I got a better fish that fought hard.

I caught a little one that kept pecking on the worm and it ended up being gut hooked. A little while later, I hooked this one.

The fish were fighting super hard.  I caught another decent fish right after that one, but it got away from me as I was trying to rinse it off.  Maybe 14.5".  Bite died after that.  Nice morning out with 6 total caught.

Did it really? Or was it time to go when it got slow? This topic comes up often. Even today. We were about to leave a spot because we were sure the bites had stopped and then...I got a hit!

I was telling John K. that it would have been a fun experiment to reverse the course of an area we tried with very little success. We didn't BTW. But ya never know when that bite comes back!

Time to go fishin' again!

That spot is not my first choice.  It does have a rocky hump and my early casts almost always get bit.  Mostly smaller fish, but if I cast out deeper, I get better bites.  Fish will cycle through there, but they do seem to shut down or move after I hook or catch a couple.  It is an easy spot to fish from.  Can't wait until our trip next week!
