On Saturday, I was fortunate to participate (as a volunteer) at the Lake Fairfax Free Fishing Event for Latino Conservation Week.
Dan Grulke, fishing Manager for Fairfax County Park Authority, led the event and asked me if I could help with casting instructions and perhaps some translating.
We had a great weather day and lots of participants representing many parts of the country and world. I'm not sure if we reached 100 participants but it was close.
What I do know is that I was busy teaching for almost all of the time I was there.
Here are some pics:
This kid was not yet 4 years old and "got it" immediately. He was casting like a pro!
Most all of the kids caught fish!
Just before I was leaving, 3 fells walked by and were talking. I recognized the accent on one of them and asked they were Cuban. One of them was. I came over and we did the Cuban bear hug! When I went back to the table, I was asked if I knew them. I said, "nope, we have never met. Hugging fellow countrymen is a Cuban thing"!
Kudos to Dan and FCPA for a great event. One of the mom's said, "It was a lot of fun! Thank you! ".
