Morning bite 7/12/23

I got out early from shore again from about 5:20am -7am.

Tried the plopper first, but nada.  Went to the big TRD and hooked 2 that I let self release trying to avoid a big branch that was in the middle of my spot.  Landed one around 15-16 inches.  Bite slowed a little, then got a good take and it immediately pulled drag.  I knew it was a good one and played it to come in below the branch and slowly walked to shore, guiding it in.  It jumped twice and looked very big.  I got it in after a few more drag pulls and grabbed it.

According to my rod measurement estimate, it was 18.5", but looked bigger to me.  I cast back out and hooked another good fish.  This one was a little easier to get in but jumped and pulled drag as well.  I did not measure it.

That bite slowed, so I tried the little fluke nose hooked on a weighted weedless wacky jig.  I think it is 1/8 oz, which was a little heavy for the low water conditions.  I did put a little scent on it.  After a few casts, I got a good take and it was another big fish.  It jumped and pulled drag as well.  In trying to avoid a lone rock getting it into shore, it somehow pulled off.  I think I gave it a little slack and it took advantage of my mistake.  Still a great fight and fun action.

I tried the little popper and the big TRD again, but no more bites.  Nice refreshing morning outing!

Surry, this was today, 7/12.  Maybe Ernie can fix the date?
